Where Learning meets Fun

"If you want to change the world, pick up your pen and write" When you hear the word Journalism especially if you're a Palonian, you may think that it is drab, boring, and hard work. Well, that may be true but, say no more because in preparation for the Area School's Press Conference, the Special Program for Journalism launched the first-ever Journ Camp. This was to educate the young journalists about their categories and to have fun while doing it. Lectures Galore The event was split into two days. The first day was more on Lectures. To start off our Journalism Teacher and freelance journalist, Sir Ronald Reyes conveys his knowledge about news writing to us. He showed us different techniques and ways to write a news article. For me, it's probably the simplest because you don't need to put in complicated words or make 5 sentences for one paragraph, just follow the facts and you're done. The second lecture was from a PhilSci teacher and former PNHS teacher

Amazing Shots

A ccording to Photutorial.com, an average of 1.81 trillion photos are taken each year worldwide. I usually take around 2,000+ photos each year. And with that amount of photos taken, I manage to take some decent pictures every now and then. And so I show you some breathtaking photos which I took just recently. A boy playing soccer with his friends at The Cathedral chasing the ball down the facade leading it back to its intended goal. In my personal opinion, this shot is quite nice, it's kind of like an action shot because of the boy running towards the ball. Though I could have waited until he kicked the ball, that would make the picture more dynamic. A  stray/lost dog walking down the street as a school bus nearly runs over him.  This photo speaks a lot about how stray animals are left unnoticed by society. Dogs/cats, walking around in circles every day, longing for someone to love them, hoping for someone to feed them, waiting for someone to embrace them with loving arms. Alas,

"The weary world rejoices": A recap of the Christmas of 2023

T he Filipino Christmas season officially comes to an end on the feast of the Epiphany. Today we are taking down the decorations and some of us are still trying to eat the rock-hard desserts left over from Christmas and New Year's. And on January 3, 2024, the school break ends and it's back to reality. Hopefully, those who've done the Misa de Gallo can still wake up early. And so, here I am writing the second part of the blog for my school's founding anniversary, which will be my Christmas experience. (My sincerest apologies for taking too long to post this because of school I had little time to work on this but, I hope you enjoy)   1. Time to Decorate! The antique cardboard nativity from the 1980's  We placed decorations around the residence to fill our house with the Christmas Spirit. Our decorations usually consist of antique pieces such as the 180cm Christmas tree, this tree is a replacement because we gave the old one to our former neighbor. Two pieces, in pa

A day of Celebration: The Palo NHS Founding Anniversary

In 1993, a new school was erected in the town of Palo. Consisting of just 3 sections with 60 students served by 3 teachers, it had just opened for its first day of classes. That was 30 years ago. Now in 2023, the Palo National High School is bustling with around 70 students per section and 60 faculty members. The campus had extended as well, now consisting of a large space occupied by many facilities. For the 30th anniversary of its founding, the school has planned a whole day of celebration. Scheduled for December 14, 2023, the day was full of excitement and celebration. Since I am a Photojournalist for the school's publication, known as The Cradle , I and my fellow photojournalists were tasked to cover the event. We had to go to the school before sunrise for the parade at six in the parade at six in the morning. Since it was December,  the air was cold as ice, when I arrived at school my hands were shaking like crazy. And at that moment I regretted not bringing a jacket. The clo

My First Blogging Experience

Image
M y first blogging experience was in  Palo NHS , it was part of our lesson in Journalism 8 online writing, and it is quite delightful. It was also frustrating because I did not know how to control the computer. It's quite nice because you get to explore your writing abilities and write about what you love.  photo by Tirachard Kumtanom on pexels Blogging can be scary at first, but as you go along you'll find that it is quite easy as long as you know what to write about. At first, I thought it was impossible especially since writing is an activity that I do not do very often but after some reassurance, I was able to do it. My blogs will mostly be about traveling to known or unknown places, but most will be here in my home province  Leyte  or  Samar . Someday I plan to travel to some place outside   Leyte . Traveling has always been my niche because when I was a child, I loved to travel, my father would usually take me on trips to the mall or his childhood home in Basey, Samar . A
